The Bears went into Detroit with a new QB under center and left with another loss. Detroit was unable to finish drives in the first half and came into halftime trailing 7-3, but turned it around by scoring 34 points in the fourth quarter and finished off with a 37-27 win. The Bears were banged up in this one, missing three of their four starting defensive backs, along with Pro Bowl LB Lance Briggs. Kitna was unable to take advantage of that through three quarters with WR Roy Williams, but the tired defense and persistent offense was able to capitalize with two passing touchdowns from Kitna and a rushing touchdown by Kevin Jones in the fourth quarter. The Detroit Lions were able to dominate the Bears offensive line at the point of attack. Shaun Rogers controlled the line with four tackles and two sacks and the rest of the Detroit front seven, including Jared DeVries (three sacks) shut down the Bears running game, forcing Griese to throw 52 times during this game.

NCAA Week 5: Upset Special In celebration of the upsets that occurred in college football this past weekend, NASFA will take you through the games that shook up the college season. The Upsets… South Florida 21 - West Virginia 13 South Florida continued to impress the nation after shutting down the high-powered offense of West Virginia last Friday night. South Florida’s defense was dominant in forcing a total of six turnovers, one being an interception by Ben Moffitt returned for a touchdown. Stopping Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Noel Divine seemed almost impossible for opposing defenses, but South Florida stepped up and showed they deserve national recognition. South Florida is an extremely solid team, and has now moved into number one position to win the Big East. Colorado 27 – Oklahoma 24 The Buffaloes scored the final twenty points in a thrilling comeback victory over Oklahoma in Boulder, Colorado Saturday afternoon. Colorado’s offense, led by quarterback Cody Hawkins picked apart the Sooner secondary in the second half. Hawkins threw two touchdowns passes in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback. Placekicker Kevin Eberhart nailed a 45-yard field goal as time expired to clinch the victory for Colorado. |

This week four NFC North match up is pitting a 2-1 Lions team against a 1-2 Bears team. The top story? Rex Grossman is on the bench and Brian Griese is under center. Contrasting styles on both offense and defense will be on display come Sunday. The Lions are going to be throwing the ball like always, but we are all sure to see a different offensive style from Chicago this week with Griese at the helm. Detroit is coming off a tough loss at Philadelphia where Kitna threw up big numbers, but their defense gave up bigger numbers. It also looks as though rookie phenom Calvin Johnson could miss this game, but it shouldn’t matter much as the Lions have an infinite number of receivers. |
